The President's Message
(Student
Council Pictures)
Greetings! As Student Council President of St. James Catholic
High School and on behalf of the other members of the Student
Council Executive, I would like to extend a huge welcome
to you, dear website visitor. Whether you are a student
at St. James, a future student of St. James, a parent, a
member of the Guleph community, a random Google-searcher,
or a ninja, you've officially become an honourary member
of the St. James family!
And what a family it is! This year St. James is a home-away-from-home
to over 1100 students, and the Student Council is proud
to represent them and enhance their school experience by
planning a whole bunch of great events. We've planned out
the yearly staples: BBQs, 2 Dances, Semi Formal, Halloween
activities, Christmas activities, Jamean Idol, Movie nights,
Valentines sales and fundraisers etc. However, we've also
added some new stuff that St. James has never done before:
Guitar hero week, a Stuff Exchange, and we’re hammering
out some long overdue amendments to the St. James Constitution.
Our Arts and Athletic Councils have also been working hard
on events so head-implodingly awesome that the earth will
tremble in sheer awe. They have been planning the Arts Symposium,
setting up an improvteam, working on the Night of One Act
Plays, helping out with our major school production this
year (Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew), organizing the
Terry Fox Run, helping out with our many sports teams and
clubs, setting up our provincially-renowned intramural program,
and more! With opportunities like these, you can't afford
NOT to get involved in some aspect of the school community.
The philosophy of St. James as found in the Constitution
is to ..."educate all students in a setting …which
nurtures a commitment to live the love of God by love for
each other". Let's live that love for God and each
other by helping out, getting involved and showing school
spirit in the St. James community. Show some Lion Pride;
let's make this year LEGENDARY!
