On February 20th, St. James performed at the district Sears Drama Festival at Our Lady of Lourdes High School. Competing against 14 other entries, Out at Sea took home Awards of Excellence for the director (Sara Bortolon-Vettor), stage manager (Megan Brush), and ensemble cast (Emma Bortolon-Vettor, Mike Kelly, Gloria Raymond, Laura St. Amour, Trisha Zawada). In addition, Out at Sea was one of three productions to win an Outstanding Production Award, and therefore advancing to the regional competition along with Our Lady of Lourdes’ The Whirpool, and GCVI’s Saving Chuck. This year’s Sears regional festival will take place at John F. Ross high school from April 21st to 25th.

A congratulations goes out to the entire cast and crew, and a very special thank you to Mrs. Neilson for all of her time and support!

The Sears Drama festival is an annual event involving schools all over the district and their theatrical creations. Each school selects and rehearses a short play to great quality. Awards are given out in various categories at the competition. St. James has advanced to the regional level two years in a row with their productions of This is a Play, directed by Joseph Pagnan, and Poodle with Guitar and Dark Glasses, directed by Sarah Siddiqui. This year, we are bringing our own adaption of Slawomir Mrozek's Out at Sea.

Out at Sea is a tragic comedy about three men on a raft stranded in the middle of the sea. One of them has to be eaten... but who? The thin man, the fat man, or the medium man? Find out at this years District Sears Festival! St. James will be performing Friday, February 20th at Our Lady of Lourdes High School. The show starts at 6:30pm, and tickets will be sold at the door for $10.
